Is there a non-surgical way to correct my nose without surgery ?
Yes, medical rhinoplasty (hyaluronic acid injections) can correct minor defects in specific cases. Even if the gold standard procedure to achieve durable nose corrections of all sorts remains rhinoplasty, medical rhinoplasty can be used to alleviate small nose humps and hollows through HA injections. This treatment can be recommended as a single treatment or after nose surgery to correct early or delayed imperfections. Medical rhinoplasty offers multiple benefits : it is a simple and quick procedure with no limitations afterwards. The results can last 1 to 2 year, because the nose is not prone to movements, therefore hyaluronic acid stays in place longer in this area.
Are there limits to what rhinoplasty can achieve ?
All sorts of defects and imperfections can be corrected with a rhinoplasty : nasal humps, excessive width, etc., but the procedure is more difficult in certain cases. For instance, when the patient’s skin is very thin, irregularities or imperfections can show more easily after surgery. On the other hand, when the skin is very thick, the procedure is more complex. Patients tend to have more brittle bones after the age of 40 and skin does not redrape as well as in younger patients. Patients presenting with a hollow between the eyes seem to have a nasal hump, but it is a fake hump. In this specific case, HA injections offer excellents results.
Can I benefit from a rhinoplasty if I have a breathing problem ?
There are very few contraindications to rhinoplasty such as cases of mucosal growths that distort the nose and untreatable bleeding issues. In those cases, the procedure cannot be performed, but these are rare. Typically, rhinoplasty improves breathing. During rhinoplasty surgery, deviated septums can be corrected.
Note that such defects have to be identified before the procedure with a thorough examination of the nose and medical imaging or an endoscopy if necessary.
