What is a blepharoplasty surgery ?
Blepharoplasty, commonly called the eyelid lift, is a procedure intended to remove excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids to rejuvenate the eyes area. Over time, skin in the upper eyelid tends to sag under the effect of tissue aging and gravity, which causes the skin to stretch and fold. Blepharoplasty removes excess skin through an incision along the upper eyelid fold, which makes it invisible. The procedure also targets, when necessary, what we commonly call undereye bags by removing excess fat in the area through an incision along the eyelash line.
How long is blepharoplasty surgery ?
The procedure is approximately one hour long when treating the upper eyelids or the lower eyelids and two hours long when both eyelids are treated at the same time.
Can I benefit from this procedure ?
You can consult an experienced cosmetic surgeon such as Dr.Balti if :
- There are skin folds in your upper eyelids
- You have undereye bags with or without excess skin.

Are there contraindications ?
It is important to know if you have an eye problem, including eye dryness, excessive lacrimation, swollen eyelids, seasonal allergies or health problems such as thyroid conditions that can affect the eye and eyelids. Patients cannot take anticoagulants to be able to undergo blepharoplasty surgery, which can be a problem for certain patients.
Are there bandages on the eyes after an eyelid lift ?
There are no bandages. Resorbable sutures disappear after a week. A specific ointment has to be applied on the incision every day. During the first few nights following surgery, patients are asked to sleep with their eyes closed and cold gauze over them in order to avoid damaging the eyes during sleep.
Are blepharoplasty results permanent ?
The result of this procedure is long-lasting, patients do not feel the need for another eyelid lift.
