The legs have a significant impact on the appearance of the whole figure, whether it is the woman or man’s body. Women with beautiful legs have no trouble wearing tight fitting jeans, skirts or dresses whereas men with well defined leg muscles look more athletic and in shape.
Despite exercising regularly, certain individuals cannot achieve the well defined leg contours they would like. There are different cosmetic treatments designed to improve the appearance of the legs for patients who want to achieve more toned, muscled and beautiful legs.
Correcting calf imperfections
There are three ways to improve the appearance of the calves with cosmetic surgery :
- Liposculpture : the calves can lack roundness when excess fat is stored around this area of the leg (at the top and bottom of the calf). In that case, liposuction can be performed at the bottom of the knee and at the top of the ankles to remove excess fat overloading the leg to knee and leg to ankle transitions, which highlights and improves calf contours.
- Fat grafting : The patient’s fat can be used to increase volume where it is needed. Fat harvesting is performed via liposuction in a chosen area. After purifying the collected fat, it is injected at different points and depths in the calves to increase volume and improve shape. After 3 to 4 months following surgery, the fat has settled in the area anad the result can be considered as definitive.
- Calf implants : while exercising is the most common method to build up calf muscles, muscular tissue is sometimes insufficient and exercising will not offer significant improvements. In this case, cosmetic surgery can be considered with a procedure commonly called calf augmentation. This procedure involves placing silicone implants in the calves to achieve more significant volume increases than fat grafting calf augmentation.
