Does liposuction remove cellulite ?
A common myth about liposuction is that it can remove cellulite.The fact is that liposuction has no effect on cellulite, because cellulite affects surface layers of fat and liposuction targets subcutaneous fat, which is located deeper under the skin. In addition, when skin is not firm enough, the result will most likely not be satisfying and the orange peel appearance of the skin will stay the same. If you have fibrous or aqueous cellulite, other targeted treatments against cellulite are preferable.
Liposuction & liposculpture : what’s the difference ?
If you have been doing some research about liposuction surgery, you have probably read the term liposculpture. Liposculpture refers to fat distribution changes made by the surgeon during the procedure to achieve a more harmonious figure.
Certain surgeons use this term instead of liposuction and while liposuction and liposculpture are synonyms, liposculpture is more of a way of using liposuction to provide a comprehensive result.
Different types of liposuction
Liposuction is not the same as it used to be, most surgeons now use the wet, or tumescent, liposuction technique. This technique involves injecting the treatment area with a liquid made of saline and anesthetic to facilitate fat removal.
This method reduces operating time as well as the side effects of surgery (bruising, swelling, scars). It also decreases postoperative pain. Reshaping the patient’s figure with wet liposuction allows surgeons to achieve more natural and superior results.
Another type of liposuction called vaser liposuction uses ultrasound energy to break down fat before its removal. The wet technique can be used with this liposuction for better results, it often targets the back or the pectoral region.
Lastly, laser liposuction is used to treat smaller areas such as the chin, the neck… Fat is liquefied by the laser before its removal. The heat generated by the laser offers a better skin retraction after fat removal for smoother results.
